how could i ever easily write my own desktop environment, compile it and restart it... while writing this post without stopping... :) ... ? ... https://xmonad.org/ ... and why would't i like that everyone else would be able to do it?... while it is in deed quite possible and only very nice... :) ... free software is the only way that money-less coders are able to work... :)
